Giving up time

Its time for the first JAA meeting of the year tomorrow.  I am already a bit jaded by meetings - by tomorrow I will have had 2 meetings of the Racing Association, 1 of the Law Society, 2 of the Gauteng Law Council including a weekend Bosberaad plus all the normal!

What is often most frustrating is that at a JAA level one is not paid for one's time.  Frustrating because although at few levels would you be paid what you could earn in that time, the members tend to behave and demand as if you are.  In other words, you do get calls that essentially imply "What are you doing for the money I pay you?"

Well, I do a lot more than the R0 I make for my time at the JAA and sometimes it really does get frustrating.  Raise your head above the water and volunteer for work, and the result is you will be called on to do more.  You will be expected to account to members and more - and ultimately, the only difference between you and them is that you are giving of your time and they are not.
