I see British TV is running an expose on competitions involving SMS voting by the public where the winners are already pre-chosen. In other words, who gets the most SMS votes does not necessarily win. I was recently approached in a similar matter run by a magazine that does not even claim to audit the results anyway. Its often not worthwhile doing anything when, for example, the prize money involved is only R1000, but it is an indication that many of these competitions may well be money making schemes where one's vote counts for nothing. Its just another way the public are fleeced and perhaps some laws need to be considered in this regard for consumer protection.
